Towards Low Carbon Economy: Actions in Elcoteq´s plants in Asia
The slogan of the 2008 World Environmental Day is “Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy”. This concerns everyone especially those working in the electronics industry.
Like Elcoteq’s plants in other regions, our plants in Asia are expressing great support by taking actions to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Elcoteq Beijing has launched the movement, “Stop driving for a day”, a monthly event which began on World Environment Day this year. This is to encourage employees to help protect the environment and put these practices into effect on a regular basis. Since September 2007, power to equipment and light fixtures in the production area has been shut down when there’s no production between shifts. These actions will be continued.
Elcoteq Dongguan and Shenzhen have switched off lighting in all non-operating areas during lunch hours.
Elcoteq Bangalore strictly monitors the weather conditions every day and sets the temperature of air conditioning and illumination to an energy-efficient level. There will be a plan to improve the electric power system to minimize energy loss.
These actions will persist and will be part or our job, not only on World Environment Day, but every day.
We’ll keep you posted on additional actions.
