The event organizer estimates that the total attendee numbers in this year’s Mobile World Congress will approach 50,000 with more than 1,300 exhibitors.
It shows that MWC remains as a must-attend show despite the global economic slowdown. The development of the mobile industry is still impressive and will help to overcome the actual economical downturn.imgp0152a.JPG

Key Topics at this years MWC:
Green has been visible in many parts of the show as a large number of green strategic initiatives have been implemented at this year’s show, and many green topics have been covered in the conference program. One big example is the agreement about the One-size-fits-all charger. The new Universal Charging Solution (UCS) announced by the GSMA. The world’s top five handset manufacturers are among the group of companies to have pledged their support for this development. This agreement will lead to 50 % less chargers being manufactured each year. The new charger is also targeting a 50 % reduction in standby energy consumption and a three times more energy efficiency than the current chargers.imgp0157a.JPG
Several new and evolving players like Google, Microsoft but also Acer where heavily present. The battle about the operating systems for handsets of the future as well as the increasing market of smart phones dominated their appearance. Apple has been a phenomena at the show: without being present it gained 20% airtime in the discussions, as it could have been witnessed in the panel discussions.
The communication infrastructure discussions where including LTE (long term evolution) and its impact as the next major technological advancement for the wireless industry. LTE is designed to deliver dramatic increase in download and upload rates.

The future of the communication technology industry and especially the mobile industry seems to be exciting despite the economical downturn.
