CeBit 2008: Elcoteq’s COO Jukka Jäämaa Discusses Total Cost of Ownership as CeBit Global Conferences Panelist
Why the total cost of ownership (TCO) approach is a solution for communication technology customers was the theme of panelist Jukka Jäämaa, COO of Elcoteq, at the CeBit Global Conference in Hanover, Germany. It was presented as part of the discussion panel “The Global Value-added Chain – Myth or Reality?”
The panel was moderated by Thomas Gampe and chaired by Sven Kielgas of Plan.Net Solutions. Mr.Jäämaa showed how TCO helps Elcoteq’s customers be more successful in the fast moving and challenging environment of the Communication Technology industry. Optimizing total cost of ownership requires looking beyond the price per unit. To actually achieve optimization, management of a product’s full life cycle is vital. Mr. Jäämaa used an actual Elcoteq example of manufacturing a mobile phone to show how TCO can be achieved.
Following Mr.Jäämaa’s presentation, a fruitful discussion with the panel participants took place. Mr. Armin Büttner, CTO of Audi, shared how an automotive company handles today’s challenges in information technology within the organization and when incorporated in today’s vehicles. Mr. Peter Heij, senior vice president and head of Continental Europe of Satyam, elaborated on how the topic of global supply is managed by a software consultant company that operates globally. Mrs. Susanne Müller-Zantop, CEO of AG, challenged the panel participants on the future outlook of global business models and how this would influence local businesses. A lively discussion with the panel attendees followed.
More than 80 panel attendees, as well as several online participants, left the discussion with a better understanding and interest in contract manufacturing in the Communication Technology industry along with their interest in Audi.
